Hip-Hop
A good friend of mine Brandon; from the college group at my church is a hip-hop artist and on Friday night I had the opportunity to see him preform for the first time. It was at an event called The Platform; put on by Bay Side Church through their hip-hop ministry (not sure if that's actually what their ministry is called.) The event was an open mic night, and it was awesome. What a great opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent and love for the Lord at the same time. The performers were amazing and it was so much fun.

Starting the Day with a Shower and a Song
The list below is a compilation of the random songs that I wake up with in my head. I've tried to write down the songs for the past few weeks, as you can see I missed many days, some because I forgot to write them down, and some because I was away from my computer.
I've included:
Day, Date -Name of Song, Artist, Year
The lyrics that I had stuck in my head that I would sing over and over again because it's the only part of the song I could
come up without actually listening to the song.
*The list below is not something that a person could possibly make up!*
Tuesday 11/13 - "Face Down," by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (2006)
Do you feel like a man
when you push her around?
Do you feel better now, as she falls to the ground?
. . .
Face down in the dirt she said, this doesn't hurt she said I finally had enough.

Take it to the limit
Take it to the limit
Take it to the limit one more time
Thursday 11/15 - "What the World Needs Now is Love." by The Carpenters (1965)
What the world needs now is love sweet love,

Monday 11/19 - "Return to Sender," by Elvis Presley (1962)

Then Ill understand

Music in the Morning
It's a usual occurrence that I wake up with a very random song stuck in my head. And I usually end up singing one to two lines over and over in my head while in the shower. I don't know where these songs come from. Perhaps it's my sub-conscience absorbing them while I sleep, but I'm pretty sure half of the songs I get stuck in my head are not played on the station I listen to at 1 am!! This morning I had a mash up of Zuit Suit Riot and What I like About you stuck in my head; very odd. Yesterday I had two lines of a song that I don't like, and I'm pretty sure I haven't ever even heard all the way through (can't remember what it was). Though I guess I should be thankful that I wake up with music on the mind, because it always starts the day off right, or at least starts off my contemplation part of the day!!
And speaking of getting songs stuck in your head, this past week I have caught myself singing Christmas songs, which is a big no no. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas music, but I'm a huge believer in giving each holiday it's full glory, so Christmas music has no place in my mind until after Thanksgiving. But after being in shock and horror that I was singing a Christmas song, I realized it's kind of not my fault because I can't control the songs that get stuck in my head sub-consciously, I can just do my best to get ride of it when it becomes conscience!!
Enjoy a Jazzy little number!

Dancing on a Treadmill?
I'll admit, I've got some serious talent; you know your thinking it!
Do you have one of those songs that no matter how hard you try you can't help but dance too, be it a full on dance or just a sway of the body? Well "I've Had the Time of My Life," is that song for me, when it's one I have no control over my body; I just can't sit/stand still no matter how hard I try! I was at the gym today and just happened to be watching Oprah (I'm not a huge fan) and she was doing her show on popular YouTube videos; oh how the times change, who would have ever thought Oprah would do a show on YouTube!?! Anyway this one couple did the Dirty Dancing Time of My life dance as their first dance as husband and wife. Oprah was having them demonstrate their skills (Patrick Swayze was waiting in the background ready to cut in half way through the dance; he's still go the moves!) So all of this to say in a very round about way; I was watching this on TV while walking on the treadmill and I just couldn't stop myself from doing a little mini dance, and I also could stop myself from laughing at myself. I mean seriously, who dances on a treadmill at the gym. I'm pretty sure I was very smooth and no one saw what I was doing, but it's kind of a hard thing to accomplish, go ahead, give it a whirl next time your on one! Anyway a funny little bit about myself, so next time you need a little laughter in your day just think of me dancing ever so slightly on a treadmill in the middle of a crowded gym!!
And until then, listen to the song for yourself and see if you can sit still!!! This has got to be the best part of the movie, and if you've never seen it, sorry for ruining the end, but seriously it's been 20 years, get with the times! (Excuse the subtitles, it's the best quality clip I could find, I'm still not a YouTube guru like some people I know!)

I Wish that I Was Jessie's Girl
No wait that's . . . "I wish that I had Jessie's Girl"
There are a few new shows on, apparently it's the hot new thing, to have people sings songs, see if they truly know the words, or just kind of make them up. I watched one tonight, and it brought back memories. I was thinking that if my daddy were around this would be a show right up his alley because he was the kind of guy to sing at the top of his lungs off key and with the wrong words, it never slowed him. The guy who was on the show tonight reminded me of my daddy, and got me to thinking about him, and my appreciation for oldies. On Firday nights on the way home with him the music that was always on was oldies and he would sing his heart out, it could always put a smile on my face. Thought a lot of the time I was probably smiling and laughing because he was singing the wrong words!! Not to brag or anything but in my family I'm usually the one who knows the words to the song, I'm usually correcting whoever I'm with that's singing. Though I do have my faults, for examply the song above, for the longest time I thought it was "I wish that I was Jessie's Girl" only to realize a few weeks ago that it's in fact "had," but give me some credit, the songs could be sung either way!!! I've got other songs that I sing my own words to, and really, maybe it's because I like my lyrics better!! Though my default song is Joy to the World by Three Dog Night, if I had to sing in front of people that would be my jam!
This one's just for my sister!!
"I don't need to be anything other than a prison gaurds son
I don't need to be anything other than the birth of two souls in one (brother to the chosen one)"
