Topic of the Hour

What Did You Do For Halloween???

I had a very lazy morning which was exactly what I needed, and then I got myself together and donated blood (being low on blood seemed appropriate with all those vampires and such out ;) ).  In the evening I helped out at the Cordova Harvest Festival; there were games for all the kids (congregation and community), a bounce house, hay rides and a soup dinner.  Sadly I didn't get to take many pictures or try any soups because I was working a game called "Formula Fusion;"  not sure if that's actually what it was called; I couldn't remember the name of the game for the life of me!  Because the theme of the night was Wacky Science my game was to throw the balls in the "beakers."  I also did my best at a wacky doctor/nurse/scientist outfit with what I had around my apartment; so nothing too wild.  I think I spend a total of $10 on my outfit which was some shoes, and i.d. holder and hair dye!  Dustin dubbed me a "Noctor" because I wasn't sure exactly what I was; a nurse or doctor.

I also made a few cakes for the "cakewalk" which was always my favorite game/event at a school fair when I was growing up; there was this great feeling of power having the ability to win a whole cake when your little!!

After the Harvest Festival, which went till 8, my friend Dustin and I went over to our friend Isaac's house to let his dog out and watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Neither of us are fans of scary movies so we figured a semi-odd movie would do the trick; plus Dustin hadn't seen it before.

So that's pretty much my Halloween; nothing too exciting, but just enough fun!

Nothing too wacky; just a little flare in the hair

My ER scrubs

Ask my Sis!

One of my cakes (the other looked the same)

Our Game (the balls all felt funny so each kid took plenty of extra time inspecting each ball!  I made one in; some of the kids schooled me in this game!)

Hmm, How 'bout a Parade

I don't know of any other town that has as many parades as this town.  I can't tell you how many Saturday's I've been woken up to cheers, claps, honks, and sirens as parades or the annual marathon that comes through town right out side my window!!!  Fair Oaks comes up with any excuse to have a parade (much like my mom comes up with any excuse to celebrate a holiday!).  This weekend is Spring Fest, I'm not really sure what Spring Fest is, all I know is that it's parade worthy!  Spring Fest is actually two days long, so if I have some extra time tomorrow I might walk over to Old Fair Oaks and check it out.

Normally I watch the parades and photograph them from my window (mostly because they wake me up and I'm not presentable to the world), but as I was doing that this morning I realized that I was missing out.  So I threw on some clothes and went outside to join in on the parade celebrations!!
The Spring Fest Sign
(through my window with the screen)
The Flags
There are always great sights to behold in our Parades
This girl was part of the gymnastics group; she was walking down
the street like that, kind of freaky!
The guy who was driving this truck hopped out while it was
still moving (very slowly) to give me come candy!
Here are more pictures from the parade, enjoy!

An Eggcellent Day

Now let me say right off the bat by saying that normally I try to stay away from corny blog titles; though I don't deny I'm corny in real life . . . but I just couldn't resist the opportunity.

Yesterday was yet another fun filled day at work! Aden is on spring break this week (which happened to be the topic of a 15 minute conversation last week on the way home from school, which resulted in me explaining that spring break means, a break from school that is in the spring. Why that took 15 minutes you'd only understand if you knew Aden ;) ). On Tuesday Aden was sick and we tried to make it out to the park but by the time we finished up mailing out Easter goodies at the post office and getting lunch at Subway we decided it would be best to head home. (As soon as Katie got home, Lauren kindly explained to her in "Lauren talk" the we didn't get to go to the park because Aden was sick so we just came home, all of which Katie could understand!)

All of this leading to yesterday . . . Yesterday we decided to pack in the fun, we made our way out to story time at the library which was fun, there was singing and poems and dancing and stories, and a take home craft. After that a quick trip to the post office and then the store to pick up some white eggs ( mom had bought brown which don't dye well). We came home and had lunch outside while the eggs were cooking, the kids took a nap while they cooled and then the real fun began. The following are pictures of the event, and what an event it was. By the time we were done Lauren was blue from head to toe (literally, at some point I noticed she had blue dye on the bottom of one of her toes; how she managed that I still don't know) and we were all a little off color!!! But it was a blast that's for sure!
The kids ready to start

Aden is an equal opportunity egg dyer

Lauren on the other hand put all her eggs in one basket (ok bowl!)

Aden's hands somehow managed to stay clean until he actually stuck them in the dye on purpose

Lauren however was practically a smurf
Two questions you might be asking; first, how are Aden's hands the cleanest of the three of us? And second, how is it that Haley has a fancy fading design on her fingers? And the answer to both questions is; I have no clue!

Engrossed in the process!

I told you, head to toe, and it wouldn't come off either

Aden with his goods; minus one
Lauren with her goods, plus one; somehow she snagged one of Aden's when we weren't looking

It was a very fun process; even if I'm still trying to get the green and pink out of my skin!

Another day, Another party

I'll attempt the short version of my past week, so if you want a detailed account of events including pictures you can get that on my sister's blog www.wii3mcfamily.blogspot.com. I'm not quite as long winded as she is, and I lost count of the number of events/parties half way through the week, I think total I only counted 6 parties but she's counted 9 or something insane like that because that's more than one party a day. Anyway here's a week in review;

Timbra and Alani flew in Saturday morning; they were the first passengers in my newly improved car, I was so excited to have it back and so excited to have Timbra and Alani out. On the way home we stopped at Trader Joe's for the necessities, I think I had like 4 things in my fridge before that. In an attempt to make some super tasty grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch I managed to slice my finger on my favorite knife; it's still in the process of healing. Timbra had to play doctor, but have no fear, I pressed on and finished my sandwiches! That was good times!! Oh, here's another one for you. For those of you who know me, being sticky is not my favorite thing in the world to put it nicely. Alani found the basket of candy canes and just had to have one. After she ate it she proceeded to go around the house sticking things up! Later when we were getting ready for the wedding I noticed a red hand print on my wall, it was clearly the mark of the candy cane monster!! We headed to Tim and Alisa's wedding and then down to the bay area to spend the night with our step-mom.

Sunday: we headed out to a late brunch for "just the girls" for Di's 50th birthday, little did she know we had planned a surprise brunch including all her friends and family. She was very surprised and overwhelmed that we would do such a special thing for her. It turned out really well and despite seeing so many people before hand she had no idea. Later that night we went to dinner at the Elephant Bar, a place I've been wanting to go to for quite some time (One time I told my mom I wanted to go there a few years ago and she laughed at me because she thought it was just a bar!). It was a pretty cool place. After we got back, it was time for me to head home, some of us have to work! On the way home I saw a horrific car fire, I took a picture of it, and as ashamed as I am to have taken the picture because I like to think of myself of not being that kind of person, my camera was right there and I just had to, the traffic was pretty much stopped so I wasn't holding anyone up.
Monday: I had to work while the girls were all off having fun. I came home after work and set straight to work on making a super tasty last meal for 2007! I was very excited to get the opportunity to make dinner because usually when everyone's here we end up going out to eat. Di and Timbra and Alani went to pick up Mike from the airport and then they all headed over. We had dinner and then did our Christmas with Diana. After that it was time for our extra special dessert and celebration of the New Year.Tuesday : The fist of the year is traditionally a day to relax and enjoy good company, good times and good laughs. That's just what we did. I set to work making a brunch for everyone dwelling in my apartment and then headed over to Isaac's house, he and his mom were so generous to open their house for some fun times playing board games. Apples to apples was the big game of the day, and we made up or own version at one point which brought some extra laughs and questions. All I remember from those games was that I won one, Mike won two, and there was something to do with first kisses and leaches, which reminds me I need to ask Isaac about that one! Somehow I was on two loosing teams of Cranium, which is not my typical M.O. when it comes to that game, but there will be a rematch come May, I'll make sure of that! After many hours of game playing we came home and Timbra made tamales while we watched Charlotte's Web.

Wednesday: was P day. First off I had to work so Timbra and Alani met up with us and we took the kids over to Funtastic the place of Fantastic Fun, ok those are all F's but I'm getting to the P's! It was play day after all! Aden was too proud to sit in the middle between the girls and claimed it was like he was on a rocket ship, but then decided it was like a jet/airplane where there were 3 seats and he was sitting in the middle, but sometimes he likes to sit by the window! After work that day Mike made his famous pizza and we had potato chips as a snack, watched Pirates 3 and drank Pepsi's, it was a regular party!

Thursday: I was once again working and was met later by Timbra and Alani, Alani was going to have a play date with the kids while Timbra and I were throwing Jewel her bachelorette party, it was very fun to spend a night out with the girls. After dinner everyone come over to my super clean apartment, cleaned by none other than my awesome sister (she should come out more often!). We had some tasty desserts and got to hear/tell some fun stories about Steve and Jewel!

Friday: No work today, yeah! We worked on getting the church ready for the big wedding, part of the day with power and part without. Of course the girls all had to take some time out to get fancy nails and toes, me and Timbra tagged along to that part just because we could! I would say the highlight for me that day was when I had to catch 42 tiny goldfish using a cut water bottle and a flashlight, quite the adventure, especially because at one point or another I had to apologize to each fish for either accidently squishing it or for catching and traumatizing it. Don't worry they all lived at least until after the wedding, I'm not quite sure what happened after that? Oh, and at just about 10 I picked up my parents from the airport!

Saturday: was another day full of adventure. A few exciting things happened. On my way up the hill to get my hair done and have brunch with mom and Bill and Ben and Katie and the kids, I passed a downed tree in the middle of the road and I hit 100,000 miles on my car (another blog to come!). Timbra brought Alani up for us to watch while she did wedding pictures and for the first time all week she choose me over anyone else in the room, a very big moment in our relationship! Mom and Bill watched her in the car while she slept and I went in to witness the biggest event of 2008, Steve getting married to Jewel! After that mom and Bill brought Alani into the reception and we got to visit and catch up with lots of people! Later that night we had a nice family dinner at Cattleman's and then came back to my apartment for Mike and Timbra's Christmas with my parents.

Sunday: was church and then a very interesting lunch with Mom, Bill, Timbra, MIke, Alani, Ben, Katie, Aden and Lauren. A lunch that resulted in Timbra, Mike and I eating ours in the car on the way to the airport. I dropped them off and headed up to Ben and Katie's for round two of my airport shuttle services. I took my parents to the airport just a few short hours later, and then there was just one (me) home alone in the peace and quite.

It was a whirlwind week, but oh so much fun, many memories made, and many adventures accomplished, all of that and in the end it was only January 7th, how crazy is that!! It was fun to have all my family out and for me to get to host a few events at my apartment, some involving the Christmas cube (my rubik's cube halloween costume served as a Christmas tree a few times)

My attempt at a short blog was not so successful, but if you still feel like your missing out on something head over to my sister's blog (here!). Please excuse the lack of pictures, my camera was dead pretty much all week, but I took some on my sisters camera so I get like 1/4 the credit there!

What, a White Christmas you said

I realize that this post is long over due, in part because I just received the pictures and in part because I've been so busy this past week I haven't even had time to text friends back! But alas here it is, though most of you have probably already heard about my Christmas adventures.

The trip started with a late flight out Friday night, my flight left something like 8pm. I got the the airport super early met by the shortest security line ever, and the nicest travelers ever who were so stress free that they let a man running late for his flight pass without a second thought. On the Seattle side there was a bit of traffic so I had to wait for my parents to come pick me up, a sweet gesture to come pick me up from the airport but probably something that will be reconsidered before being offered again!

Saturday was met with a lazy morning and a surprise massage/spa experience for me as a treat for finishing out a very stressful semester ended with a intense week of finals. I felt very pampered and very spoiled. Thanks for the surprise treat mom and Bill! Saturday evening we went to Central Market to do some food shopping for the days ahead and to pick out a Christmas tree. There were like 5 trees all very nice and in a matter of minutes we found just the tree for us, not too tall and just fat enough. We left the "elf" out front to wrap it while we did our shopping. After we finished shopping and the "elf" and Bill tied the tree on we headed home. About half way home Bill pipes up with "Uh guys, I've got something to tell you; I don't think that's our Christmas tree." We started laughing so hard we could believe it as Bill recounted the clues he put together to process that the tree on top of our car was in fact not our tree. And sure enough when we got home we had to lop off a few feet just to fit it in the house. Every time we looked at the tree after it was in the house and all decorated, we could help but laugh as we admired the beauty that wasn't really our tree!

Sunday we went to Church in the morning and then spend a good while running from store to store looking for paraffin wax for dipping our hand and feet in. We went to way too many stores and just as we were about to give up we found the store that actually still sold it and mom bought 6lbs!! In the mean time we collected a printer, two new pillows and some kindling; Bill decided it was the most expensive wax ever! Later that day we took the ferry over to Seattle to see Jersey Boy, yet another surprise adventure from my parents. The show was amazing. Left us all singing Franky Valli and the Four Season's songs for the rest of the weekend. After the show we ran over to Macy's to get mom a cute new hat that she looked very Confident in! That one's an inside joke for Bill!

Monday was very low key, we walked to town for breakfast at Bill's favorite place Doc's. After breakfast we walked through town and a few shops to check out the goods. Mom and I left Bill at the bookstore to relax while we walked home to get the car because his feet were hurting him. Most of the rest of the day we hung out at home, we made tamales and sugar cookies, played games and watched the movie that actually inspired the song "White Christmas" no the movie was not White Christmas. And of course what's Christmas eve without some games!

Tuesday was Christmas, we enjoyed our traditional Christmas breakfast, opened some presents and hung out playing games. I'd been wanting a white Christmas for many years now and felt jipped when I went to Utah two years in a row and got nothing in the way of flakes. At some point during the day it started raining and I told Bill I was going to pretend it was snowing. He just laughed and told me it wasn't, until a while later we looked out and it actually was snowing. At that point I told him I knew it would snow, you just have to believe. He then asked if I could believe that dollar bills would start falling out of the sky! We went to the movies and saw Charlie Wilson's War, a movie I recommend everyone see. Phase 10 was the game of the day and boy did we enjoy it, way fun! It was a wonderful and relaxing day spend in good company!

Wednesday Bill had to go back to work, so mom and I hung around in the morning and then headed to town for some after Christmas shopping, of course I accumulated a few more treasures! We went home for a bit and played some square nine, headed to the ferry and missed it, so we opted for a trip to Bay Hay and Feed, and then decided to walk on to the next ferry. Mom and I squeezed in a few rounds of Skip-bo on the ferry! We met Bill on the Seattle side, had dinner at Red Robin and then they put me in a car with a complete stranger (aka a taxi!) and I headed to the airport.

It was a great trip and I'm sure I missed some important details, so mom and Bill, please don't be offended if I missed something but feel free to add it in! Thanks for a great week!

Do You have the Captain in You?

Here's something to keep you occupied while we wait for my pictures and post about my White Christmas, yep I said White Christmas!!!

After all "Everybody's got a little Captain In Them" . . . Right?

Hope this gave you a good laugh; something close to the laughing I was doing while taking these pictures!
